What is this tool for?

This tool combines electricity and gas inputs into one monthly bill scenario so you can preview utility cost pressure before the invoice arrives.

It is useful for household and small-business budgeting where tariff changes, consumption shifts, or fixed-fee updates need quick comparison.

What do parameters mean, and where does data come from?

Core inputs are electricity usage (kWh), gas usage (m3 or equivalent unit), electricity unit price, gas unit price, fixed distribution/supply charges, and tax rate.

The calculator does not fetch mandatory live tariffs. It runs on your entered values, so unit prices and fixed fees should be refreshed from provider statements and official regulator publications.

Calculation logic and formula interpretation

Model flow: electricity subtotal = electricity usage x electricity unit price; gas subtotal = gas usage x gas unit price. Fixed fees are added, then tax is applied to produce the monthly estimate.

Interpretation matters: variable usage grows linearly, while fixed fees can dominate low-consumption months, changing your effective per-unit cost.

What does output represent, and how should it be read?

Output is an input-based billing scenario, not a legal invoice. It helps you read probable cost range and plan cash flow in advance.

Read electricity and gas contributions separately. If total cost moves, this split shows whether the change came from usage behavior or tariff assumptions.

Real-world numeric example

Example: electricity usage 240 kWh at 0.22 GBP/kWh and gas usage 85 m3 at 0.08 GBP/unit. Electricity subtotal is 52.8 GBP and gas subtotal is 6.8 GBP.

If fixed charges are 18 GBP and tax is 5%, pre-tax total becomes 77.6 GBP and estimated total becomes 81.48 GBP. This helps compare scenarios before the billing cycle closes.

Why needed + limitations + misuse risks

The tool improves budgeting and consumption awareness, but it cannot replace official invoices, provider contracts, or regulated billing rules.

This content is informational. Tariffs, taxes, tiered pricing, and regional charges may change. Before final payment decisions, verify with official provider documents and regulator resources.
